Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is an operation to reduce the size of the labia minora. It is an operation to make the inner lips more symmetrical, small, and aesthetic.

What are the reasons for labiaplasty?

- Congenital causes. Hypertrophic and asymmetrical labia. This disturbs the patient both aesthetically and functionally. The patient cannot wear tight clothes. Patients with hypertrophic labia often have frequent infections because the genital area remains moist.

- Acquired Causes: They are generally birth-related causes.

A preliminary interview is made with the patient before labiaplasty. The anatomical structure of the patient is evaluated. Since the anatomical structure of each patient is different, labiaplasty is a personalized surgery. The patient's demands and wishes are taken into consideration before the operation. The operation is performed under general or spinal anesthesia and the patient can be discharged on the same day.

There is mild pain after labiaplasty, but the pain is relieved after 24 hours. We recommend intermittent ice application for the first 3 days. It is observed that the oedema is excessive in the first 3rd-5th-7th days. After about 10 days, the oedema begins to subside. More oedema occurs in the subcutaneous tissue where the stitches pass, so there is a slight asymmetry in the shape of the labia after surgery. I am giving preliminary information in order to prevent this from becoming a worrying situation. It will be right to wait patiently for the oedema to resolve. Itching may start after 4-5 days, after 3 weeks the itching will disappear.

The stitches we use in the operation are self-absorbing stitches. After 3 weeks, these stitches are absorbed and start to fall off spontaneously and therefore the patient's complaint of itching disappears. The patient is given medication to alleviate the complaint of itching after the operation.

When can sexual life be resumed after the operation? : Sexual life can be resumed after the first 4 weeks are completed.
